I am so sorry (not sorry) for the title of this little ditty…I just couldn’t help myself.
.) I am married to Ben. We met in high school, he was the super gorgeous laid-back surfer and I was the ultra-OCD nerd.
.) We were friends, just friends. After Ben graduated (he was a year ahead of me), when he would come home from wandering the country his would always stop at my house to catch up. My mom always said he had a thing for me.
.) I went to UCONN, made poor choices, decided to have roommates during my third semester (aka move back home with my parents so I didn’t drink my way out of school).
.) Ben joined the US Army National Guard, home from basic we ran into each other at the grocery. Me living at home, he living in a broken down mansion.
.) I went to his welcome home party, drove him home, slept over, never left. Literally, we have lived together ever since that night.
.) In February 2008, five or six months after we started “playing house” I found out the reason I was falling asleep in English. I was pregnant.
.) We moved.
.) We moved again.
.) Julia was born in October 2008.
Pictured: Ben and I, the day before I went into labor.
.) Ben was discharged from the Army and we moved to Florida in March 2009, possibly one of the dumbest things we have ever done (new baby, new state, no support).
.) In July we flew home for my sister’s jack and jill, on the plane ride to Connecticut we decided to get married. Two days later, we wed in his mom’s backyard.
.) In September, Ben started school. I received a certified letter, I thought we won something or someone sent us money. Nope, Ben was being recalled to serve in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
.) Two weeks later, we moved home and he left for mobilization. Jules took her first steps. I found out I was pregnant for the second time.
.) At twelve weeks pregnant I learned I had miscarried a couple of weeks prior. Ben flew home to be with me during my D&C (dilation and curettage, basically I was put under, my cervix dilated and then the “contents of the uterus were scraped or suctioned out”).
.) Ben went over to Afghanistan, I started working full-time for the Gap as a visual merchandiser. Jules was awesome, and would eat lunch with her daddy via Skype.
.) Ben came home to us in October 2010, a few weeks later we were expecting for the third time.
